Gazehounds, another name sighthounds are known as, are dogs that hunt by sight rather than by scent like some other dog breeds.  They are also known for their speed and agility.

The sighthound family includes several different dog breeds (sample list below); some have long haired coats and some short haired ones.  But one thing is for certain, they are all beautiful dogs.

Different sighthound breeds have different characteristics, some quite different.  But many do share a few common traits; such as in appearance, many will have a long "houndy" snout.  Most will have oval shaped eyes set at somewhat of an angle.  The body is often narrow with a slightly tucked abdomen.  Sighthounds often have a proud prance like trot, and most of them are quite the expert sprinter.  A sighthound running in full sprint is a sight to behold.
